Setting Excel to Calculate Automatically

By default, Excel should be set to calculate formulas automatically as you enter data. However, if that setting gets changed somehow, you'll certainly want to know how to get things back to normal. Here's how it's done!

First, you'll want to open up the Excel spreadsheet you wish to use. Then:

Enabling Auto-Calculation in Excel 2003 and Older.

In your Excel menubar, select:

TOOLS (1) → OPTIONS (2)

Select TOOLS -- OPTIONS.

Then, in the window that appears, select the CALCULATION tab (3) ...

Select CALCULATION tab and mark AUTOMATIC.

... and put a mark in the radio button next to AUTOMATIC (4).

Click the OK button. Excel should now calculate formulas as you enter your data!

Enabling Auto-Calculation in Excel 2007.

To set up automatic calculation in Excel 2007, begin by selecting the FORMULAS ribbon (1).

Select the FORMULAS ribbon.

Then move to the right of the screen and choose CALCULATION OPTIONS (2), and then AUTOMATIC (3).

Click CALCULATION button and choose AUTOMATIC.

That's it! Excel 2007 should now calculate all formulas automatically as you enter relevant data!
