This time, the 2014 Scorecard from the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED) informs us that, among other tidbits, 44 percent of us have less than three months&#8217; worth of savings tucked away.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"article\">CFED: <a href=\"http:\/\/assetsandopportunity.org\/scorecard\/about\/main_findings\/\" target=\"_blank\">2014 Assets and Opportunity Scorecard<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The figures aren&#8217;t far off from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/2013\/06\/half-3-months-expenses\/\">those released<\/a> in June of 2013 in a similar report from <I>U.S. News<\/I>. We hit the same savings ballpark in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/2013\/02\/half-living-paycheck-to-paycheck\/\">Allstate survey<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p>From a summary article:<\/p>\n<div class=\"blurb\">Nearly half (44%) of households in the United States are \u201cliquid asset poor,\u201d meaning they have less than three months\u2019 worth of savings &#8212; conservatively measured as $5,887 for a family of four, or three times monthly income at the poverty level.<\/div>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what world these folks live in, but $5,887 doesn&#8217;t seem to be anywhere close to a reasonable measurement for a three-month cushion for a family of four. Which suggests to me that the figures are, in fact, really worse than what&#8217;s reported here.<\/p>\n<p>CFED also says that one quarter (25%) of middle class households (those earning $56,113 to $91,356 annually) have less than three months of savings. In a related note, they divulge, about 56 percent of us have subprime credit scores.
