{"id":2605,"date":"2012-03-05T08:08:25","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T14:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/?p=2605"},"modified":"2012-03-18T09:31:05","modified_gmt":"2012-03-18T14:31:05","slug":"computer-build-ram-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/2012\/03\/computer-build-ram-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"First Computer Build: RAM Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float:right; margin: 0 0 14px 14px;\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/graphics\/computer\/case_front_full.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/graphics\/computer\/case_front_thumb.jpg\" title=\"New Build!\"><\/a> <\/div>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;ve encountered my first hardware failure with my aforementioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdmproofing.com\/iym\/weblog\/2012\/01\/first-computer-build\/\">desktop computer build<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend the PC began experiencing random BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) errors in Windows 7 &#8212; sometimes during &#8216;net surfing, sometimes during gaming, and sometimes watching YouTube vids. <\/p>\n<p>Suspecting a possible software issue because I&#8217;d recently installed a couple of things, I set about completing a Win7 restore operation. No go &#8212; restores would not complete.<\/p>\n<p>Next check: hard-drive testing. Windows&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_7-performance\/using-windows-7-how-do-i-run-chkdsk\/a68b3e4d-1a42-e011-9767-d8d385dcbb12\" target=\"_blank\">CHKDSK<\/a> took a while, but completed normally.<\/p>\n<p>And then: RAM testing. Rut ro &#8230; Windows&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/windows.microsoft.com\/en-US\/windows7\/Diagnosing-memory-problems-on-your-computer\" target=\"_blank\">memory testing<\/a> application quickly reported back that the RAM had errors.<\/p>\n<p>Turning to the &#8216;net for a bit of guidance, I performed a more thorough RAM test with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.memtest86.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Memtest86<\/a>. With both Corsair RAM sticks installed, Memtest returned thousands and thousands of errors. <\/p>\n<p>I removed one stick and retested &#8212; no problems. <\/p>\n<p>Swapped that stick out for the other, and retested. Result: quadzillions of errors.<\/p>\n<p>So there you go: One of my two Corsair 4g RAM sticks has crapped out ofter just over a month of use. I&#8217;ll be replacing the pair of RAM cards with a pair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0037TO5C0\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=itsyourmone-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=B0037TO5C0\">4gb sticks<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=itsyourmone-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B0037TO5C0\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> from Kingston. (I&#8217;ve had good luck with Crucial in the past, but Kingston can be had with free 2-day shipping thru Amazon Prime &#8230; and I do loves me some Amazon Prime.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, I&#8217;ve encountered my first hardware failure with my aforementioned desktop computer build.
